The Swiss Event Calendar and What It Means for Your Order Date

Swiss National Day falls on 1 August and is a public holiday nationwide, which makes it the most predictable anchor in the calendar. Campaigns built around it are planned a year ahead without much risk.

The Advent season is the other reliable window. The Basel Christmas Market runs from late November to shortly before Christmas, and similar markets across the country follow roughly the same weeks.

Art Basel fills the city every June and takes hotel, crew and logistics capacity with it. OLMA, the agriculture and food fair, does the same for St. Gallen in October.

For a stand piece, the exhibitor manual rather than the show date sets the real deadline: technical documentation is usually due weeks before move-in.

Bulk production typically takes 3–8 days for simple items, 7–15 days for standard custom work and 15–25 days for complex or large pieces, counted from final design approval. Freight comes on top: express or air usually 4–15 working days, and sea, rail or truck usually 20–45 days, after dispatch and subject to route and customs

As a planning estimate, approve artwork about 12 weeks before installation for a complex piece shipped by sea, or about 7 weeks by air. Working back from 1 August, that means early May for sea freight and mid-June for air.

Above roughly 1,200–1,500 m, winter precipitation falls mainly as snow and can cover the ground for weeks or months. An Advent market piece therefore lives in cold, often snowy conditions for weeks, which is a specification question as much as a scheduling one.

Foehn, a warm dry wind, occurs in Alpine valleys; southerly foehn is most frequent in April and May. For a spring installation in an Alpine valley, that is worth raising with the venue when the shutdown plan is agreed.

MOQ is 1 piece for most custom projects, so one piece can be approved and reviewed before a larger run. Pattern and print setup are paid once per design, so a second unit for another city costs less per piece.

For a campaign across Zurich, Geneva and Basel, each unit is packed and labelled by destination city, and the language of the approval file may differ by canton.
