Market planning

Built for the Iceland market

Shipping to Reykjavík

Iceland is in the EEA but outside the EU customs union, so goods are declared to Iceland Revenue and Customs. VAT is charged at the standard rate of 24% on imports, together with any duty and other import charges. Express or air freight usually takes 4–15 working days after dispatch and sea routes 20–45 days. DDP options are reviewed by quotation.

Peak dates and artwork deadlines in Iceland

The National Day falls on 17 June, the summer event season is short and concentrated, and retail campaigns build through the dark months into Christmas. As a planning estimate from our production and freight ranges, approve artwork about 12 weeks before installation for a complex piece shipped by sea, or about 7 weeks by air.

Planning for local conditions

Wind is the planning constraint: gusts are frequent and the Icelandic Meteorological Office issues yellow, orange and red warnings, so an outdoor installation needs a clear shutdown and take-down plan agreed in advance. For outdoor work we review material, seams, the blower position and a covered power connection for the actual site, and agree a weather shutdown plan with the organiser.

Venue documents and language

The municipality, the venue and the insurer set the rules for temporary installations in public space. Ask the organiser what they need from the supplier before production. Approval drawings and labels can be prepared in Icelandic or English.

Mockup review before production

Every design is approved on a scaled drawing and a colour mockup before cutting starts, so an agency in Reykjavík can take it through client sign-off. Revisions happen at the drawing stage, and the production clock starts from final approval.

Multi-city and repeat campaigns

For a campaign running in Reykjavík, each unit is packed and labelled by destination city. Approved patterns are kept on file, so next year's repeat order does not start pattern work again.

Iceland FAQ

How are custom inflatables imported into Iceland?

Iceland is in the EEA but outside the EU customs union, so goods are declared to Iceland Revenue and Customs. VAT is charged at the standard rate of 24% on imports, together with any duty and other import charges. DDP options are reviewed by quotation, and the importer or customs broker confirms the classification before shipping.

Can these inflatables be used outdoors in Iceland?

Yes, with site planning. Wind is the planning constraint: gusts are frequent and the Icelandic Meteorological Office issues yellow, orange and red warnings, so an outdoor installation needs a clear shutdown and take-down plan agreed in advance. Material, seams, blower position and a covered power connection are reviewed for the site, and a weather shutdown plan is agreed with the organiser.

What documents do venues and organisers ask for?

The municipality, the venue and the insurer set the rules for temporary installations in public space. Ask the organiser what they need from the supplier before production. Approval drawings and labels can be prepared in Icelandic or English.

How early should we order for a Iceland event?

Work back from your installation date. Production takes 3–8, 7–15 or 15–25 days by complexity, plus freight: 4–15 working days by air or 20–45 days by sea. For a complex piece shipped by sea, approve artwork about 12 weeks before installation.

Use ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude to build a cleaner RFQ before you send it to the factory.
