Market planning

Built for the Swiss market

Shipping to Zurich, Geneva, Basel and Lausanne

Switzerland sits outside the EU customs union, so goods are declared to the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security. Tariffs on industrial products were abolished on 1 January 2024, while 8.1% import VAT still applies. Express or air freight usually takes 4–15 working days after dispatch and sea routes 20–45 days. DDP options are reviewed by quotation; classification is confirmed with your importer or customs agent.

Swiss peak dates and artwork deadlines

Plan around Art Basel (every June), Swiss National Day on 1 August, OLMA in St. Gallen (8–18 October 2026) and the Basel Christmas Market (26 November to 23 December 2026). As a planning estimate from our production and freight ranges, approve artwork about 12 weeks before installation for a complex piece shipped by sea, or about 7 weeks by air.

Material choices for Alpine weather

Above roughly 1,200–1,500 m, winter precipitation falls mainly as snow, and foehn winds blow through Alpine valleys, most often in April and May for southerly foehn. For resort and mountain events we review material weight, seams and fixing for the actual site, and agree a weather shutdown plan with the organiser.

Venue files in German, French or Italian

Swiss venues and cantonal fire authorities set their own requirements; materials are classified RF1 to RF4 under the VKF/AEAI guidelines from tests to EN or VKF standards. Ask the venue which classification it needs before production. Approval drawings and labels can be prepared in the language of the canton: German, French or Italian.

Mockup review before production

Every design is approved on a scaled drawing and colour mockup before cutting starts, so an agency in Zurich or Geneva can take it through client sign-off. Revisions happen at the drawing stage, and the production clock starts from final approval.

Multi-city and repeat campaigns

For a campaign running in Zurich, Geneva and Basel, each unit is packed and labelled by destination city. Approved patterns are kept on file, so a repeat order for next season's markets does not start pattern work again.

Switzerland FAQ

How are custom inflatables imported into Switzerland?

Goods are declared to the Swiss Federal Office for Customs and Border Security, usually through your importer or customs agent. Tariffs on industrial products were abolished on 1 January 2024, and 8.1% import VAT applies. DDP options are reviewed by quotation.

Are inflatables suitable for Swiss mountain and winter events?

They can be, with the right planning. Snow, cold and foehn winds in Alpine valleys affect material choice, fixing and when the unit must be taken down. We review the site conditions before specifying the material and agree a weather shutdown plan with the organiser.

What documents do Swiss venues ask for?

It depends on the venue and canton. Many ask about fire behaviour, classified RF1 to RF4 under the VKF/AEAI guidelines. Confirm the requirement with the venue first; approval drawings can be prepared in German, French or Italian.

When should we order for the Basel Christmas Market or Art Basel?

Work back from your installation date. Production takes 3–8, 7–15 or 15–25 days by complexity, plus freight: 4–15 working days by air or 20–45 days by sea. For a complex piece shipped by sea, approve artwork about 12 weeks before installation.

AI Sourcing Guide

Use ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude to build a cleaner RFQ before you send it to the factory.

AI works best when the brief is structured. This guide turns rough notes into a supplier-ready checklist, then sends you toward the RFQ form, factory verification, and the buyer questions that usually decide the quote.
