Importing Custom Inflatables into Mexico: Padrón, Pedimento and IVA

Commercial importers must be registered in the Padrón de Importadores administered by the customs agency ANAM.

This is the step that decides your schedule. If the brand already imports, the path is short. If the buyer is an agency producing a campaign, the usual routes are to use the client's importer, or to work with an importer of record service. Both are normal; what is not workable is discovering at the port that nobody on the paperwork can receive the goods.

The import declaration (pedimento) is filed by a licensed customs broker (agente aduanal), who pays duty and 16% IVA.

The broker needs the commercial invoice, the packing list and the transport document, and the invoice has to describe what is in the cartons, accessories included. An inflatable arrives as a fabric body plus a blower plus anchors and a carry bag, and those can classify differently, so the classification is confirmed from the materials, the use and photographs before the goods move.

DDP options are reviewed by quotation rather than assumed, because the registration and the IVA position sit with the importer.

For a multi-city campaign, ask for the packed dimensions and gross weight per unit so the domestic leg can be quoted properly. Freight is charged on volume as much as weight, and an inflatable is a volume shipment.

Bulk production typically takes 3–8 days for simple items, 7–15 days for standard custom work and 15–25 days for complex or large pieces, counted from final design approval. Add the customs steps and the domestic leg, then work back from the installation date.

Buen Fin in mid-November and Día de Muertos at the start of November put the busiest retail weeks of the year back to back, so a Q4 campaign is planned earlier than the arithmetic alone suggests.

Product type, target size, quantity, print-ready artwork, destination city, event date, and who will act as importer. If the importer is already registered and has a broker, say so: it shortens the sequence and tells the supplier which documents to prepare.
