The Mexican Retail Calendar: Buen Fin, Día de Muertos and Your Order Date
The Mexican year loads its retail weight into the autumn: Independence Day on 16 September, Día de Muertos on 1–2 November and El Buen Fin in mid-November, one after another. Bulk production typically takes 3–8 days for simple items, 7–15 days for standard custom work and 15–25 days for complex or large pieces, counted from final design approval, freight and customs on top, so a complex piece for Buen Fin is approved in late August.

The autumn cluster
Three peaks land in roughly eight weeks: Independence Day on 16 September, Día de Muertos on 1–2 November and El Buen Fin in mid-November. For a retailer that is one continuous campaign season; for a supplier it is a capacity crunch.
The consequence is practical. A design approved in October for Buen Fin is competing for the same production slots and the same freight space as everyone else's. The brands that get the schedule they want approve in August.
The trade fairs
Expo Publicitas is held at Centro Banamex in Mexico City every May, and Expo ANTAD runs annually in Guadalajara for the retail trade. Both are stand-build events, which means the exhibitor manual sets the documentation deadline rather than the show date.
From event date to order date
Bulk production typically takes 3–8 days for simple items, 7–15 days for standard custom work and 15–25 days for complex or large pieces, counted from final design approval. Freight comes on top: express or air usually 4–15 working days, and sea, rail or truck usually 20–45 days, after dispatch and subject to route and customs Then add the customs sequence, which for a first-time importer includes the Padrón registration.
As a planning estimate, approve artwork about 12 weeks before installation for a complex piece shipped by sea, or about 7 weeks by air. Working back from El Buen Fin, that is late August for sea freight and late September for air.
The rainy season overlaps the planning window
Across most of Mexico the rainy season runs from May to October, when up to 80% of annual rain falls.
Campaigns installed between May and October are planned with that in mind: material, seams, blower position and a covered power connection are reviewed for the actual site, and a weather shutdown plan is agreed with the organiser.
Multi-city and repeat campaigns
MOQ is 1 piece for most custom projects, so one unit can be approved before a larger run, and pattern and print setup are paid once per design. A campaign across Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey is packed and labelled by destination city.
A design approved this year can be repeated next year without new pattern work, which is what makes the second Buen Fin cheaper than the first.
