Commercial Christmas Inflatables for Malls, Retail and Events: What to Order and When
Commercial Christmas inflatables are custom holiday displays for malls, retail parks, town centres, hotels and events, including Santa Claus, reindeer, snowmen, Christmas trees, gift boxes, oversized ornaments, snow globes and nutcrackers and toy soldiers. Buyers of large outdoor and atrium displays commonly ask for 20–50 ft (about 6–15 m) pieces, while the final size of each design is confirmed against the venue. Internal lighting can be considered for suitable designs, agreed per project rather than fitted as standard. There is no universal last order date: send size, artwork, quantity and destination as early as possible so production and shipping can be checked against your event date.

Commercial Christmas inflatables versus yard decorations
The Christmas inflatables sold in home stores are mass-produced yard decorations: fixed designs, small sizes, a thin material and a built-in fan meant for a few weeks in a front garden. Commercial Christmas inflatables are a different category. They are built to order for a specific venue, at the scale of a mall atrium, a retail park entrance or a town square, in the brand's or venue's own colours, and they are expected to be set up, taken down and stored for more than one season.
That difference shapes everything that follows: the design starts from the space and the campaign rather than a catalogue, the size is chosen for sight lines rather than shelf space, and the schedule is set by production and international freight rather than by stock on a shelf.
Which designs buyers order
The classic Christmas figures remain the core of most commercial displays: Santa Claus, reindeer, snowmen, Christmas trees, gift boxes, oversized ornaments, snow globes and nutcrackers and toy soldiers. Santa and snowmen give visitors a character to photograph; trees and gift boxes create a centrepiece; ornaments and snow globes work well suspended in atriums or grouped at entrances; nutcrackers and toy soldiers frame doorways and walkways.
Many venues order a coordinated set rather than a single figure: a tree with Santa, a snowman and reindeer, designed in one colour palette so they read as one scene. A set also lets a venue spread the display across an entrance, an atrium and a car park while keeping it recognisably the same campaign.
What size to plan for
For large outdoor and atrium centrepieces, buyers commonly ask for 20–50 ft, about 6–15 m. That is a size people request, not a fixed product range: the right size for each design is confirmed against the site.
Indoors, the ceiling height, sprinklers, lighting rigs, balconies and the doors the packed display must pass through set the upper limit. Mall seasonal displays in atriums are commonly 2–6 m high, and suspended pieces are hung only from venue-approved rigging points by a venue-approved team. Outdoors, sight lines from the road or the square, the space around the base and the position of the air supply decide what works. Give the manufacturer these limits along with the size you have in mind.
Lighting and night-time impact
Christmas shopping and events run into the evening, so how a display looks after dark matters as much as in daylight. Internal lighting can be considered for suitable designs, agreed per project rather than fitted as standard. Internally lit Santas, trees and ornaments glow after dark and can become the evening photograph, but lighting affects the design, the material choice, the power at the display position and the budget, so raise it in the first brief rather than after the drawing is approved.
Where internal lighting is not suitable, external spotlights or the venue's own lighting can still make a display read well at night. Ask the manufacturer which approach suits each design.
Branding a Christmas display
Commercial displays often carry the venue's or sponsor's identity: a mall's colours on the gift boxes, a logo on Santa's sack, a campaign message on a snow globe base. Branding works best when it sits naturally on the design rather than on a banner attached afterwards. Send vector artwork with colour references at the brief stage, and ask for a print layout on the drawing so the placement is approved before production.
Planning the schedule backwards from the event date
The most common problem with commercial Christmas displays is timing. The event date cannot move, so plan backwards from it: the date the display must be installed, the freight and import time before that, the production time before shipping, and the design approval before production starts.
Bulk production typically takes 3–8 days for simple items, 7–15 days for standard custom work and 15–25 days for complex or large pieces, counted from final design approval, and large or detailed Christmas pieces usually sit in the upper tiers. Freight comes on top: express or air usually 4–15 working days; sea, rail or truck usually 20–45 days, after dispatch and subject to route and customs. Add time for artwork revision rounds and for import clearance at the destination. There is no single last order date that applies to every project; the realistic date depends on the size, the quantity, how quickly the design is approved, the destination and the shipping method.
In practice, that means sending the size, artwork, quantity, destination and installation date as early as possible, ideally before artwork is final, so the production and shipping plan can be checked against your date while there is still room to choose sea freight rather than a more expensive air shipment.
Reusing displays across seasons
A commercial Christmas display is an investment that pays back over several seasons if it is looked after. Ask how each piece folds and what its packed size is, plan dry storage for the rest of the year, and keep repair materials from the original build. The separate guides on long-term storage and on cleaning and mould prevention cover what keeps a display in condition between seasons.
What to send for a quote
Send the designs you want (or reference images), the target size of each piece and the space limits at each position, indoor or outdoor use, whether internal lighting is wanted, the artwork and colours, the quantity, the installation date and the delivery address. MOQ is 1 piece for most custom projects, so a single centrepiece can be ordered on its own.
Verified Specifications

Material specifications
| Specification | Typical use | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Double-layer PVC | General construction for custom advertising inflatables | The default build for most promotional structures. |
| 0.4 mm PVC | Large-format projects | Used on delivered large-format orders. |
| 0.5 / 0.6 / 0.7 mm PVC mesh | Engineered structures | Specified where the structure carries load, spans further, or faces sustained wind exposure. |
Air system specifications
| Pump | Airflow | Pressure | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 650 W electric pump | 1,600–2,000 L/min | 2.0 psi | Smaller spheres, compact displays and short-duration indoor installations |
| 1600 W electric pump | 4,800–5,200 L/min | 4.5 psi | Large-format structures, arches and continuously inflated outdoor displays |
Both pumps cover 110–240 V at 50–60 Hz, so the same air system suits 110 V and 220–240 V markets. Confirm the plug type for the destination country.
Lead time
- Typical: Bulk production typically takes 3–8 days for simple items, 7–15 days for standard custom work and 15–25 days for complex or large pieces, counted from final design approval
- Can be shorter: Repeat orders on an approved design can run shorter
- Freight and import time come on top. Lead time is confirmed per project once artwork, size, quantity and destination are fixed; treat any figure quoted before that as indicative.
